Marriott award stays for families
The short answer
A points night covers the room with the beds it already has, room tax, service charge and extra-person charges. Rollaways and resort fees are yours to pay. You can book up to nine rooms on points at the same hotel for the same dates, as long as you stay in one of them.

01
What does a points night cover for a family?
Marriott’s terms put it like this:
“The Award Redemption Stay includes the cost of a guest room (with existing bedding) at a Participating Property, room tax, service charge, and extra-person charges (except at eligible all-inclusive properties), if any.”
So extra people in the room don’t cost extra on a points night, at most hotels. “Existing bedding” matters: the room comes with the beds it has, and extra beds are not included.
02
What do you pay on top?
Rollaway beds, resort fees, Ritz-Carlton Club level charges and anything you charge to the room. Check the hotel’s rollaway and resort fee before you book, because the points price doesn’t show them.
You can ask for a bed type, but the terms say room preferences “may be requested, but are not guaranteed”. If your family needs two beds, book a room type that comes with two beds rather than relying on a request.
03
What changes at an all-inclusive resort?
The points night covers the all-inclusive package for two people. A third, fourth or more guest pays an extra fee, in cash.
You have to tell the resort the right number of guests and the ages of any children. Marriott can change the price to match the real guest count.
04
Can you book more than one room on points?
Yes, up to nine rooms, paid with points or Free Night Awards, in your name, at the same hotel for the same dates, and you have to stay in one of them. They are for you and your guests only.
You get Elite Night Credits for your own room only, not for the others.
Marriott’s terms don’t mention connecting rooms. If you need them, ask the hotel after you book. Count the points for every room.
05
Can you book a room for family if you aren't going?
Yes, as a gifted stay, booked through Marriott Member Support, up to five a year. Free Night Awards can't be gifted. See the family resorts worth the points.
Questions
Do kids stay free on a Marriott points night?
Extra-person charges are included in a points night under Marriott's terms, except at all-inclusive resorts, where the points cover two people and more guests pay a fee. Rollaways cost extra everywhere.
Are rollaway beds included with a Marriott award stay?
No. Marriott's terms list rollaways among the charges the member pays.
How many rooms can I book with Marriott points?
Up to nine rooms in your name at the same hotel for the same dates, with points or Free Night Awards, as long as you stay in one.
Can I book a Marriott points stay for my parents or kids?
Yes, as a gifted stay through Member Support, up to five a year. Free Night Awards can't be gifted.
Are resort fees covered on a Marriott points stay?
Not at most hotels. Marriott's terms say resort fees are the member's to pay. At all-inclusive resorts the points night covers the resort fee for two people.
